    An appeal in a case against Anthony Haire is being taken under advisement in the Wyoming Supreme Court, with a written decision expected at a later date. Oral arguments have been heard by Supreme Court justices, as well as counsel for Haire and the State of Wyoming. Following a four-day trial in December 2015, Haire was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment.     In 2016, the Thermopolis Police Department, Hot Springs County Sheriff’s Office and Thermopolis Volunteer Fire Department responded to 4,493 calls. The Thermopolis Police Department responded to 2,424 calls.     Five members of the Thermopolis FFA Chapter have earned the qualifications needed to for their State FFA Degrees. Jessie Pennoyer, Dreama Thorpe, Taylor Nuttall, Logan Bartholomew and Ryan Bleak will receive their awards in April at the State FFA Convention in Cheyenne.     An Owl Creek Watershed Study public meeting is set for Monday, Feb. 13 from 4-6:30 p.m. in the Big Horn Federal meeting room.   • Unemployment rate remains down in county

    New unemployment numbers for December have been released by the research and planning section of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, showing an unemployment rate of 4.8 percent compared to the national rate of 4.5 percent. Wyoming has a total labor force of just over 303,000 people. In December 14,674 of those folks were out of work. In Hot Springs County our unemployment rate is 4.3 percent, just below the national average.     On Jan. 20 in the United States District Court of Wyoming, Darrel Demas, 27, and Justin Dvorak, 30, formerly of Thermopolis, were sentenced to prison terms for providing heroin which resulted in the death of Alexander Herdt in Thermopolis. According to court documents, Demas was sentenced to 48 months and Dvorak was sentenced to 24 months on individual charges of distribution of heroin resulting in death. The occupants escaped the inferno without injuries along with their dogs, but the home was a total loss.
