Over the weekend, two Thermopolis residents were inducted into the Wyoming Cowboy Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Laramie. Carl Obe Dockery was born on Owl Creek in 1936 and raised there by parents Clifford and Edna. During his childhood, he said, much of time was spent going places with horses, except for the quarter-mile trip to school, which he walked. Russ Dowdy has retired from the Wyoming Department of Transportation after 24 years with the Thermopolis maintenance crew. "It's been a good run," Dowdy said at his retirement luncheon on Sept. 21. Dowdy was born in Greeley, Colo. He graduated from Hot Springs County High School in Thermopolis in 1973. During the Tuesday evening meeting of the Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, Dr. Jason Weyer reported the big day — Oct. 1 — is coming up with regard to Title 25 patients. Starting that day, the hospital will no longer accept Title 25 patients as the hospital is not an appropriate facility for that. Unemployment numbers for the month of August have been released by the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, showing Hot Springs County’s unemployment rate dropped from 3.7 percent in July to 3.1 percent in August. While that may seem like a significant drop in unemployment, it is necessary to realize the actual workforce in the county dropped by 49 people, either through moving out of the county, retiring or otherwise leaving the workforce. Josh Schmidt, a veterans service officer from the Wyoming Veterans Commission, will conduct community outreach services in Wyoming cities through October. In District Court on Monday afternoon, a sentencing was continued in a case against Justin Spence. Following a three-day trial in late April, Spence was found guilty of incest, which states he molested a juvenile on July 4 or 5, 2014. Though Spence was scheduled for sentencing on Monday his attorney, Travis Smith, argued there was a delay in getting the pre-sentence investigation (PSI) to his client. Carl Obe Dockery and Ernest Nathan “Nate” Brown, posthumously, have been selected as inductees for the Wyoming Cowboy Hall of Fame (WCHF) for Region 8, which includes Hot Springs County. Dockery and Brown were selected by the WCHF Board of Directors during their annual business meetings on May 20 and 21 in Casper. At 1:04 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5, the Hot Springs County Sheriff’s Office received a report from Billie Jo Norsworthy, of a 2014 white Ford truck stolen from her residence. The vehicle was later stopped in Riverton, and it was discovered the driver, 43-year-old Christopher Mitchell of Cody, was involved in a chase leading across several counties.
