    Mark Dykes, Editor|Nov 30, 2017

Joshua Hoyer was fined $5,000 and sentenced to 2-4 years in prison for possession of a controlled substance with intent. In August, he agreed to plead guilty to the charge in exchange for dismissal of charges of possession of methamphetamine and delivery. The State of Wyoming, as part of the agreement, would not argue for a sentence of more than 5-8 years. The charge to which Hoyer pled stems from a Dec. 4, 2016, incident during which he was contacted by Autumn Boyle, who asked him to obtain...

  • Protect your pets during cold weather

    Nov 30, 2017

We’ve been pretty fortunate to be nearly through November and just a single snowstorm on the books, but that isn’t going to hold for long. With winter, pet owners need to think about keeping their dogs, cats and other furry family members safe and warm. Just because they sport their own fur coat does not mean they aren’t susceptible to the cold. Just like people, pets’ tolerance to the cold can vary from pet to pet, based on their coat, their body fat stores and even their overall health. You may need to shorten the length of their walks o...

The Thermopolis Police Department recently received a report from a local bank regarding fake $100 bills circulating in the area. The bills have been found in other locations in Wyoming as well. • One cited in compliance checks

    Mark Dykes, Editor|Nov 23, 2017

Recently, compliance checks were done at businesses that serve alcohol in the county and East Thermopolis. Though the full data has not been received, preliminary information shows that at least one subject was cited for selling alcohol to a minor. In compliance checks, the subjects are cited, not the business, though the business is also reprimanded. Times when compliance checks are done varies, but are usually done at least once per year by someone who looks to be of age to buy alcohol but is...

  • Kay Bjorklund reflects

    Mark Dykes, Editor|Nov 23, 2017

One of the first things one might notice upon visiting Kay Bjorklund's residence at the Pioneer Home is the abundance of pictures decorating her walls. Some are framed, while others are stuck up with pins or leaning against stands on desks. Above her bed is mounted a quilt with screen printings worked into the design. But, with three children, eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, it's easy to see how she would have plenty to put up. Born and raised in Newcastle, she graduated high sch...

    Cindy Glasson, Reporter Photographer|Nov 23, 2017

The National Weather Service has predicted slightly warmer temperatures through December, but they’ve also called for slightly wetter conditions, too, so while we’re enjoying these unusually warm November days, the snow is coming eventually. When the white stuff finally arrives, the first question is usually about snow removal. When will it start and what roads get cleared first? Thermopolis and the county actually have two entities that work on keeping our roads clear, starting with keeping Win...

  • South Thermop water questionable

    Cindy Glasson, Reporter Photographer|Nov 16, 2017

At some point during the last year, nearly everyone has heard about the water issues in Flint, Michigan. The contamination levels in their water has rendered it undrinkable by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards. Cindy Glasson, Reporter Photographer|Nov 16, 2017

If you've driven down Sixth Street lately, you're sure to have seen all the changes going on along the east side of the street. One of those changes is the opening of Jay's Sandwich Shop in the former Blimpie's building. AJ Magelky opened Jay's after deciding it was time to go out on his own and this sounded like a good adventure. "Of course, I'm wondering what I was thinking, now," he laughed. "Eighty hours a week. I'm a little tired." That doesn't stop Magelky from arriving early each morning...
