Several coaching positions are coming open for the 2018-2019 school year at Hot Springs County High School. The district will be searching for a new head golf coach, head girls basketball coach, head boys basketball coach, head wrestling coach and head track and field coach. The Wyoming FFA Association has announced the recipients of the 2018 Wyoming State FFA Degree, the highest award the state can bestow on its members. A total of 194 members representing 45 Wyoming FFA chapters earned the degree. These members will receive their degrees on April 19, as part of the Wyoming FFA Convention, held in Cheyenne each year. Tuesday night, Thermopolis Town Council heard quite a bit from Darren Butcher regarding an ordinance that would allow for people to have chickens in town. There will be a few changes at Hot Springs County High School next year with a move to six periods of 60 minutes each rather than the seven periods of 55 minutes they are experiencing now. The Thermopolis Volunteer Fire Department responded to a grass fire near Gebo Sunday at 1:35 p.m. Fire Chief Mark Collins said the department responded with four engines and a water tender, along with 14 personnel who were at the scene for over three hours. Monday in Hot Springs District Court, Scott D. Jackson pleaded guilty to fourth offense driving under the influence. The charge is from a June 9 incident. According to court documents, an officer was notified of an intoxicated driver. The officer observed the suspect not stopping at a stop sign and affected a traffic stop. Beginning April 2, a store that has been a familiar site for 10 years in Thermopolis will get a new name when Blair's Super Market becomes Mack's Market. The number of drunken-driving fatalities on the nation’s roadways doubled on St. Patrick’s Day in 2016. Twenty-nine people died each day in 2016 in crashes involving a drunken driver. On St. Patrick’s Day, 60 were killed according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration. A couple of cracked pipes in the Law Enforcement Center sent maintenance director Anthony Fruciano on a mission to discover what the cause was. The first indication something was amiss happened when water appeared in the ceiling tiles above the judge’s chambers. Monday morning, the Thermopolis Police Department put out a notice via Facebook regarding another missing juvenile, and again the community responded. According to the release, Jared Hoffman took off on foot at about 10 a.m. Monday in the area of Sixth and Bighorn. A physical description as well as what he was wearing was also put out. The Hot Springs County Cemetery District has opened bids for the construction of an expansion project at Monument Hill Cemetery. Included in the project is rock removal and site preparation for an eastern expansion of the cemetery, approximately up to 279 feet by 400 feet or 2.6 acres.
