RIVERTON — Plague and rabies both have been detected in Riverton animals. Three Riverton family dogs have tested positive for plague in the past two weeks, Riverton Police Department animal control officer Becki Weber said Sept. 5, and a bat found in town tested positive for rabies last week. Both diseases can spread to humans and may result in death without proper treatment. A discussion regarding future development of the old airport property was among the items covered at Tuesday's meeting of the Hot Springs County Commissioners. On Aug. 22, 43-year-old Jason A. Little of Meeteetse was sentenced to 30 months in prison, followed by 36 months of supervised release, for unlawful use of a controlled substance, in possession of a firearm. This past Tuesday at 5:40 a.m. the Thermopolis Police Department initiated action to arrest four illegal immigrants who were working in Hot Springs County. Police Chief Julie Mathews said this incident had been “days in the making,” and by 7:20 a.m. on Tuesday the four subjects were in custody. Some changes will be coming to one of our local businesses as Reese and Ray’s IGA has been sold to Superfoods. The company has actually purchased all three Reese and Ray’s stores in Wyoming to add to their holdings in Dubois, Glenrock and other Wyoming towns. A Cody woman was arrested Aug. 2 in Thermopolis and charged with child endangerment, interfering with an officer and unattended vehicle still running.
