  • HS County Courthouse reopens to public

    The decision was made during Tuesday’s county commissioners meeting to move ahead with a “soft” re-open of the Hot Springs County Courthouse, beginning today (Thursday). The courthouse was closed down at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in order to help slow the spread of the virus and the public was allowed in only if absolutely necessary.   • Hospital moves into new facility

    Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital has moved into their newly constructed wing and is making the transition to be known as Hot Springs Health. Jake Schrickling, project manager of Sletten Construction, reported on the effort that is still going on at the hospital.   • Communications center receives upgrade

    The Police Department recently upgraded and renovated its 911 communications center. The old console was installed in 2004 and recently ceased to work properly. The Town of Thermopolis approved the new console from Xybix. Xybix installed the new console and took them a day and a half to complete the install.   • Planned fluctuation of flow downstream of Boysen Dam

    The Bureau of Reclamation, in response to a request from the Hanover Irrigation District, has scheduled a flushing flow below Boysen Dam, according to Area Manager Carlie Ronca. “The purpose of the flushing flow below Boysen is to attempt to flush moss down river and mitigate the amount of moss the district has at their diversion. On June 4 and June 5, flows in the river below Boysen Dam will fluctuate from 1,400 cubic feet per second (cfs) to 3,200 cfs and back to 1,400 cfs.     The Wyoming Department of Transportation is continuing with the changes to corners along Sixth Street and hope to have Phase I completed next week. The project includes tearing out the corners on each block and then rebuilding them to be ADA compliant. This week, they have been running on a skeleton crew as many of the workers had to leave for Sheridan for a short project in that area, but even with fewer people on the job they have tied up a lot of loose ends this week.     The Wyoming Area Office of the Bureau of Reclamation, in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), will perform road reconstruction on the Boysen Dam Road and the access road which runs between the dam and the Upper Wind River Campground. It is expected the work will start on June 16 and be completed by September 28.     The Research & Planning section of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services reported today that the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose from 3.8% in March to 9.2% in April. In Hot Springs County, the unemployment rate jumped from 4.4% in March to 6.9% in April. In April of 2019 the unemployment rates was 3.1% in HSC.     There have been eight confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Hot Springs County, As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 26. Seven are considered active, one recovered, no current probable cases and two recovered probable cases. In Wyoming there are a total of 648 confirmed cases, 202 unconfirmed probable cases, with 607 recoveries. COVID-19 cases shot up by 30 over the weekend. Recoveries also saw an increase of 24.     The Wyoming FFA was forced to cancel its convention due to Covid19. The convention was to take place April 15-18 in Cheyenne.     The Hot Springs County Commissioners met briefly as the County Board of Equalization in order to sign the 2020 abstract of Hot Springs County.     Three Hot Springs County residents have tested positive for Coronavirus over this last weekend. At least one dozen more people have undergone testing as of Monday, May 18. Results are pending.
