A slow down in aerial spraying created a slight dip in fuel sales at the Hot Springs County Airport during August according to FBO Nate Messenger. Messenger told the Hot Springs County Commissioners at their September 1 meeting that the airport saw a total of 146 operations at the facility, including nine turbine helicopters and five jet engine aircraft. Their car wash equipment was outdated for some time and with customers using credit cards in addition to carrying cash, they needed their equipment to work with current technologies and payment methods. Jerry & Shelly Deromedi are celebrating their 50th Anniversary. They were married on August 28, 1970, but have known each other all of their lives. Shelly grew up in Kirby, and Jerry grew up in Gebo. Both their grandparents were miners in Gebo, and grandfathers were best friends. They happened to be high school sweethearts. A $3.3 million highway improvement project is continuing through the Town of Thermopolis on US20/WY789, and asphalt milling activities are slated to begin Wednesday, Sept. 2. During the Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital board meeting, CEO Margie Molitor praised both Nina Landis and John Gibbel for their leadership during the recent roof leak. Molitor was on vacation during the leak which was caused by a major rainstorm. She said they kept the hospital operational even though they had to divert trauma patients that needed CT scans for a short period of time. An extension to Wyoming’s current public health orders released today by the Wyoming Department of Health contain no changes. The orders, which remain in effect through September 15, continue to allow outdoor gatherings of no more than 50% of venue capacity, with a maximum of 1,000 people as long as social distancing and increased sanitization measures are in place. In the recent Travel and Tourism board meeting held at the Hot Springs County Museum, Director Jackie Dorothy provided some good news in their financial report. The Lodging Tax Distribution check that was posted on June 30, was for $4,301.06. However, for the following month, with the date posted on July 31, the Lodging Tax Distribution was $20,586.05. More than 1,600 Thermopolis and Hot Springs County residents came out to cast their ballots on Tuesday in the Primary Election and the unofficial results are in. A 14-year-old Casper boy’s body was found Friday in the Wind River after he apparently drowned. The boy had been reported missing from a campground in the Wind River Canyon earlier in the day.
