A major part of tourism in Thermopolis has finally received the go-ahead to open their doors, although there are some restrictions still in place. Hellies TePee Pool and Star Plunge were allowed to do a ‘soft opening’ the last week in May with several precautions in place, including no use of jetted hot tubs or locker rooms and open to members only. The Hot Springs County Commissioners approved an addendum to a hangar lease at the airport, which allows a small portion of land to be added to a lease in order to place a propane tank on the property. According to FBO Nate Messenger, there were 140 operations at the airport during the month of May, including two air ambulances. He indicated fuel sales are up quite a bit from April, as well. CHEYENNE – In response to Wyoming’s significant revenue shortfalls, Governor Mark Gordon has instructed state agencies to immediately take action to further reduce spending and prepare for deeper cuts in the coming months. The reduction plan requires agencies to prepare for more drastic scenarios and be proactive, since the revenue situation could further worsen. The Chamber of Commerce is looking for high school students and adults to operate their fireworks store in preparation for the Independence Day holiday. Fireworks SuperMarket purchased the store last year and contacted the Chamber in February. They wanted to find an organization to run it. The Wyoming High School Activities Association (WHSAA) recently released a list of those schools in the state which showed exemplary sportsmanship. With Hot Springs County High School participating in 3A East, they were one of only five schools who were recognized for their sportsmanship, having no coaches or athletes ejected from a game during the entire school year. During the special session, State legislators authorized the Wyoming Community Development Authority (WCDA) to receive and administer funds provided to the State of Wyoming from the U.S. Department of Treasury pursuant to the CARES Act. The decision was made during Tuesday’s county commissioners meeting to move ahead with a “soft” re-open of the Hot Springs County Courthouse, beginning today (Thursday). The courthouse was closed down at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in order to help slow the spread of the virus and the public was allowed in only if absolutely necessary. Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital has moved into their newly constructed wing and is making the transition to be known as Hot Springs Health. Jake Schrickling, project manager of Sletten Construction, reported on the effort that is still going on at the hospital. The Police Department recently upgraded and renovated its 911 communications center. The old console was installed in 2004 and recently ceased to work properly. The Town of Thermopolis approved the new console from Xybix. Xybix installed the new console and took them a day and a half to complete the install. The Bureau of Reclamation, in response to a request from the Hanover Irrigation District, has scheduled a flushing flow below Boysen Dam, according to Area Manager Carlie Ronca. “The purpose of the flushing flow below Boysen is to attempt to flush moss down river and mitigate the amount of moss the district has at their diversion. On June 4 and June 5, flows in the river below Boysen Dam will fluctuate from 1,400 cubic feet per second (cfs) to 3,200 cfs and back to 1,400 cfs. The Wyoming Department of Transportation is continuing with the changes to corners along Sixth Street and hope to have Phase I completed next week. The project includes tearing out the corners on each block and then rebuilding them to be ADA compliant. The Wyoming Area Office of the Bureau of Reclamation, in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), will perform road reconstruction on the Boysen Dam Road and the access road which runs between the dam and the Upper Wind River Campground.
