    Now is the time to act and be counted in the 2020 Census. Data collection will end on September 30, and the U.S. Census Bureau is encouraging everyone in Wyoming who have put off self-responding to respond between now and the final deadline of September 30. Currently, the State of Wyoming has a 79.2 percent total response rate, which includes self-response and the Nonresponse Follow-up (NRFU) operation.   • Public health orders extended

    An extension to Wyoming’s current public health orders released today by the Wyoming Department of Health contain no changes. The orders, which remain in effect through September 15, continue to allow outdoor gatherings of no more than 50% of venue capacity, with a maximum of 1,000 people as long as social distancing and increased sanitization measures are in place.     The Primary Election was held Tuesday, August 18 and the results have been made official. In Hot Springs County, 1,645 people cast their vote. Of those, 1,462 are registered as Republican, 162 are registered as Democrat and 21 are registered as Nonpartisan.     In the recent Travel and Tourism board meeting held at the Hot Springs County Museum, Director Jackie Dorothy provided some good news in their financial report. The Lodging Tax Distribution check that was posted on June 30, was for $4,301.06. However, for the following month, with the date posted on July 31, the Lodging Tax Distribution was $20,586.05.     More than 1,600 Thermopolis and Hot Springs County residents came out to cast their ballots on Tuesday in the Primary Election and the unofficial results are in. Of those, nearly 600 were absentee ballots, double what the county normally sees in an election year for President. Starting with our local races, Dusty Lewis (574) and William H.   • Heavy rain leaks through hospital roof

    During a major afternoon rainstorm on Friday, August 7, water poured down through the roof of an old part of Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital that was under construction.     A 14-year-old Casper boy’s body was found Friday in the Wind River after he apparently drowned. The boy had been reported missing from a campground in the Wind River Canyon earlier in the day. No foul play is suspected. The Wyoming State Parks Service rangers and the Fremont County Coroner’s Office are investigating the incident.     Hot Springs County officially entered a fire ban on July 21 after the county commissioners signed a resolution upon recommendation from the Hot Springs County Fire Warden. Until further notice, any open fire or discharge of any class fireworks is prohibited on all unimproved state and private land within Hot Springs County. There are exceptions, however.
