The Hot Springs County Extension Office is hosting a home and garden workshop on Thursday, May 3 beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Big Horn Federal meeting room. The Hot Springs Veterinary Clinic will hold its annual rabies clinic on Wednesday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This provides an opportunity to get your pet’s vaccination up-to-date, though if you can’t make it on that day or need your pet examined, call the office at 864-5553 to make an appointment for the same fees sometime the week of the clinic. Those looking to catch some trout on the Big Horn River might have a slower go of it than they have in previous years. According to Wyoming Game and Fish Regional Fisheries Supervisor Sam Hochhalter, a survey of the Wedding of the Waters area, which includes from Wedding to Eighth Street, showed there were 1,100 trout per mile. In comparison, a 2016 survey showed 2,700 trout per mile. The drop in trout, Hochhalter explained, is due to poor survival of the stock fish and no natural recruitment...

This spring, our fourth graders at Ralph Witters Elementary School experienced two wonderful trips overnight in Yellowstone National Park. The first trip stayed at the YCC (Youth Conservation Corps) in Mammoth from March 9-12. The second trip stayed at the Lamar Buffalo Ranch in Lamar Valley from April 16-20. Hot Springs County High School students will be celebrating prom on Saturday, May 5. As it falls on Cinco de Mayo, the prom committee decided on a Cinco de Mayo theme and added some new things to the traditional rite of spring. The Grand March will be held in the auditorium this year, beginning at 7:15 p.m. To add a little grandeur to the march, a red carpet will be in place at the front of the auditorium for attendees to “walk the red carpet.” The dance will be held this year in the AG shop, beginning at 8 p.m....
The Red Dirt Master Gardeners will be hosting a clean up for the community garden located next to the southeast corner of Hot Springs State Park. The event, which is 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, April 29 will help get the garden ready for the spring community. Young hunters in Hot Springs County and across the state will have a chance to show off their skills at the Youth Hunter Education Challenge in Thermopolis on Saturday, May 5. For the second year, the Thermopolis Gun Club has joined forces with Friends of the NRA and Wyoming Game and Fish to bring the program to town. A few buffalo watch as Jake Korte heads through their pasture in Hot Springs State Park during the appropriately named Buffalo Bash 5k run/walk on Saturday. Korte finished first with a time of 24:11. Hot Springs County Recreation office is offering a “Get Golf Ready” program to cover the basic fundamentals of the game, introduce students to golf etiquette and help students learn how to navigate the facility. The program is designed for the beginning adult golfer or for those that have been away from the game for a while and want to get started again. The Hot Springs Pioneer Association is continuing a project which began in 1996, recording the histories of Hot Springs County residents. “Memories of the Past, the Next Generations” is an addendum to the original histories that were written about historical figures and families with deep roots and a few generations in Hot Springs County.
