    Phone scams are an annoyance practically everyone has to deal with, and those running the scams are targeting more and more agencies. Among them is the United State Department of Veterans Affairs. Hot Springs County Senior Center Director Trenda Moore said people are getting four to five calls a day, by people using software to make the calls.     After almost 30 years of working with Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital, Daryl Mathern is looking to step back a bit. Mathern started in July of 1989 as the Director of Diagnostic Imaging, a position he has held the whole time he was with the hospital. Prior to coming to Thermopolis, he earned his Bachelor's from the University of Mary in North Dakota. He also did some training in the U.S. Army, serving from 1970-73 and earning the rank of SPEC-4.     A Thermopolis Community Blood Drive is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 12 from 3-7 p.m. at the Hot Springs County Senior Center. All blood types are needed.   • Gun club hosts turkey shoot Sunday

    The Thermopolis Gun Club will host a turkey shoot at the Bob Milek Memorial Range on Sunday, Nov. 11 from 1-3 p.m. Categories for the shoot include Centerfire Pistol or Rifle and Rimfire Pistol or Rifle, and one turkey will be awarded for the shooter with the best score in each category. There is a $5 entry per squad position, and shooters will have five shots at a face down nine card target. The best hand wins, providing for a competition that combines skill with chance.   • Veterans Day ceremony, salute at VFW

    Sunday, November 11 marks Veterans Day across the United States. The day will begin with the placing of Hawk’s Avenue of Flags at Monument Hill Cemetery, beginning at 7 a.m. The Avenue of Flags was turned over to the Big Horn Basin Riders this year and the group would appreciate any volunteers who would like to help place the flags in the morning and then take them back down before sunset.
