The Wyoming Shriners will hold their statewide meeting and their parade on September 21 at 11 a.m. to celebrate their regional conferral, where they make new Shriners from candidates. To become a Shriner, you have to be a Freemason first. The parade will start on the usual path on Senior Avenue, moving to the stoplight, and then end at the VFW. Holy Trinity Episcopal Church women's group held their annual Rummage and Pie Sale last Saturday. The building was packed with a variety of items with something for everyone. Vicklund Pharmacy’s name is changing to Hot Springs Pharmacy. Vicklund Pharmacy was established in 1987 by Carol Vickund Bivens and current owner Tony Deromedi purchased the pharmacy in 2014 after he worked for Bivens from 2004 until 2014. During the week of September 8, members of the Thermopolis Volunteer Fire Department were in action each day, Monday through Friday. They responded to multiple calls for service including one reported motor vehicle crash, a request for assistance from the police department and numerous grass fires which burned over 1,800 acres. Shawn Mohr is the new Public Health Director in Hot Springs County starting August 5. The previous director Tricia McPhie resigned earlier this summer. Mohr said he is "getting settled and figuring out where things are at and getting my schedule going." Mohr has been receiving a large amount of training from the state and looking to see that they are meeting all the needs of the county's public health. I recently read the article in the Travel and Tourism section of the paper where Jim Matthewson told the story of a man who was visiting our town to consider locating his business here. He was impressed with the Hot Springs State Park and the downtown area. Jim saw this man the next day and he informed Jim he would not be locating his business here after seeing some of the neighborhoods. William Wayne Dafoe, affectionately known as Bill, 46, of Chester, Mont., died Wednesday September 11, 2024, peacefully at the family ranch after a battle with brain cancer.
