  • Adult volleyball kicks off

    Adult volleyball through the Hot Springs County Recreation District kicked off on Wednesday with the first games between Moderately Knowledgeable and Owl Creek Graphics and KSA vs Gassed by Gottsche. Games will be played in the high school gym on Wednesdays through Nov. 1 with the final tournaments on Nov. 8 and Nov. 15.     Coach Stephanie Metz said the cross country runners did well at the Michelle Ludwig Invite in Sheridan on Saturday, with 10th grader McKenna Bomengen placing ninth with a time of 21:02.18, and sixth-grader Dazlynn Hunt placing 13th with a time of 10:54.19.     The Bobcat golf team made the journey to Wheatland last week to attend the 3A East Conference. Coach Jacob Smith said the golf course was in great condition and the team was really looking forward to a good weekend of competition.     The Lady Bobcat volleyball team traveled to Rawlins last Friday and Saturday for the Rawlins Invitational, starting the weekend against Star Valley, Torrington and Cody in pool play. Although they went 0-8 in pool play on Friday, coach Shannon Hill started some new rotations as the girls headed into the silver bracket on Saturday. They went head to head with Buffalo first thing Saturday, losing in two, 9-21 and 13-21.     Thermopolis Middle School volleyball is off and running with the eighth grade team going to Worland last Saturday for a Quad Tourney with Cody, Powell and Worland, while the seventh graders were at home, facing the same teams on their own court.     The Lights On After School program for Ralph Witters Elementary and Thermopolis Middle School kicked off this week, and Program Coordinator Elisa Daniels said there are already 200 students registered between the two schools. Regular hours of operation are 3:45-5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 12:35-3:30 p.m. Friday. Hot Springs County High School will be taking donations of dresses. They have been helping recycle dresses to current students for high school dances for a few years now and their “stock” is running low. Translated to “Fat Tuesday,” the day reflects the practice of eating richer foods before the start of the fasting season of Lent prior to Easter.     Hot Springs County Public Health, in partnership with Safe Kids Wyoming, will kick off Child Passenger Safety Week/Month on Tuesday, Sept. 19 by encouraging parents to know the Wyoming law.
