  • School board approves daycare facility

    The Hot Springs County School District has decided to move ahead with a daycare facility for use by district employees starting this fall. In a special meeting last Thursday, Superintendent Dustin Hunt informed the board, with three different scenarios available for the start of the 2020-21 school year, now is the time to begin an in-house daycare for teachers and staff. Hunt said with the three plans in play, the daycare would be the best way to keep the teachers in front of the students.... Full story

  • Statewide health orders continued through July 15

    Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon and Alexia Harrist, State Health Officer, have extended the Statewide Orders regarding COVID-19 through the 15th of July. There are no changes to the current orders regarding gatherings of 50 – 250 people, salon requirements, gym requirements or those that must be followed by hair salons, tattoo parlors, daycares and other businesses.   • Seat belt use credited for saving woman's life

    On Saturday, June 27 at approximately 5:30 p.m., Amanda Hicks, of Worland, lost control of her vehicle at milepost 145 on US 20 (two miles north of Kirby). The vehicle Hicks was driving rolled over at least two times and came to rest on its passenger's side blocking both lanes of travel. Hicks had left Thermopolis earlier with her two dogs.     On the night of Tuesday, June 24, some juveniles allegedly entered the Hot Springs County Recreation District Garage and caused damage. They also painted graffiti at the skate park. Inside the garage, the subjects spray painted a John Deere Gator side by side with an obscene image. A five-gallon bucket of paint was dumped all over the floor.     4-H and FFA youth had the opportunity to have their fair beef project's hooves trimmed on Wednesday at the fairgrounds. Kevin Nicol comes to Thermopolis every year to trim hooves.     Wyoming Hot Springs State Park (HSSP) has volunteers from all over the country who come with their RVs and help with the maintenance of the park. All of them feel extremely fortunate to spend their retirement years collaborating in gardening and upkeep. The relationships of the volunteers have become quite close and collegial.     Virginia "Jenny" N. Coe, 64, passed away suddenly June 19, 2020, in Thermopolis, Wyoming after a massive stroke. Born July 1, 1955 in Hillsville, Va., she was the daughter of Howard and Alene (Smythers) Williams. For much of her life she worked as a waitress and for 20 years was a retail clerk at a truck stop. She married John T. Coe, Sr. The couple had two sons and two daughters. Mr. Coe died in 2013.     Austin Barral has been nominated for Junior Ham Operator of the Year for the state of Wyoming. The award is for ham operators 18 years or younger. Zieb Stetler nominated Barral and said he is “One in a Million.” Barral, 16, has a General License. He originally joined the Boy Scouts and got his radio merit badge under Stetler’s counsel and guidance.
