    Tuesday evening, the Thermopolis Town Council approved a motion, 3-2 with members Dusty Lewis and John Dorman Sr. voting “no,” a payment of $8,921.67 to Brad Basse of Jadeco for work done on the communications area of the Law Enforcement Center. The project was initially bid at around $3,324, but final costs came in at $11,776.60.     Students at Thermopolis Middle School are working to help the people of Sudan by providing funding for a well there. The inspiration for the project came after they read “A Long Walk to Water” by Linda Sue Park. The novel tells two stories. One is the fictional account of Nya, a girl in Sudan who is fetching water from a pond for her family, travelling over miles of rough terrain in searing heat to do so.     The National Weather Service (NWS) in Riverton will teach a Severe Weather Spotter training class to increase the number of weather spotters in Hot Springs County.     Having had the wonderful experience of living in Thermopolis for the past seven years, I've taken in much of the beauty from small hikes and walks around town, but there is so much yet to see.
