This weekend, 10 disabled veterans from across the United States will come to Thermopolis VFW Post 2281 to do some antelope hunting, through the Hunting with Heroes program. Though the hunt doesn't begin until Saturday, the veterans should begin arriving Friday afternoon. Over $32,000 was raised from the event, which will help defray medical costs and other expenses. On September 7, Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital was presented with a Hospital Quality Award from Mountain-Pacific Quality Health, during the Wyoming Hospital Association Meeting and Convention in Cheyenne. Tuesday evening, the Thermopolis Town Council approved the second reading of an ordinance regarding fees for construction and demolition trash and the disposal of tires. Prior to approving the second reading, the resolution was amended to include language stating an appropriate permit must be paid for in advance. On Sunday at 9:48 a.m., the Thermopolis Volunteer Fire Department was called out to respond to a grass fire near mile marker 8 on Highway 120. The wind driven fire involved 18 acres, along with multiple structures and equipment. The department responded with four wild land engines, two water tenders, a structure engine and 18 personnel. In August, Thermopolis Town Council officially passed Ordinance 843. The ordinance, which took effect Sept. 1, outlines opening and closing times for municipal parks. Two suspects who were pursued through Thermopolis on a stolen motorcycle have entered pleas to charges against them, though official sentencing has yet to happen in Hot Springs County Fifth Judicial District Court. There will be an auction the evening of Saturday, Sept. 24 at the VFW, with proceeds going to support Clay Little and his family, as he endures his battle with cancer. Thursday evening, the Thermopolis-Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce approved a change in the hours at the Chamber office. The Chamber will close from 12:30-1:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.
