The Hot Springs County High School Lady Cat wrestlers traveled to Lander last weekend for the two-day Lander Invite Tournament. Twenty-six teams from around the State of Wyoming were joined by the Thunder Ridge team from the State of Idaho. Cody won the team competition with 216.5 team points. With a team of just four competitors, the Lady Cats put three into the semi-final round and finished the event with two individual championships. The Travel & Tourism Board met on January 20 for their first regular monthly meeting of the new calendar year. The board reviewed the status of their on-going projects, and discussed other future projects. Director Angie Guyon reported that the December, 2025, income to the organization from the lodging tax had been in the sum of $15,651.42, which represents an increase of more than 56%, over the same time period in 2024. The Hot Springs County Commissioners held their first meeting of the new year on January 6, 2026. The commissioners were advised that the Kirby Creek Irrigation District was not in compliance with their filings with the Wyoming Secretary of State, and were in jeopardy of being dissolved as a result. It is understood that the entity has recently made the necessary filings with the state. At the meeting is was not known if the filing would abort the dissolution. With a relatively light agenda, the Thermopolis Town Council held its first regular meeting for this year on January 6. There were no public hearings on the council’s agenda, and no member of the public appeared to speak for citizen participation. Police chief Pat Cornwell advised the council that his department has hired a new patrol sergeant, who will be starting on January 16. After dividing the team to compete at three different locations the week before, the Hot Springs County High School Lady Cats wrestling team was reunified last weekend for the Clash at the Crossroads Tournament in Shoshoni, where all members of the team were able to place in the event. Fresh off their holiday break, the #5 ranked Hot Springs County High School Lady Cats basketball team were back in action last week meeting up with the four top-ranked Class 2A teams in the state. On Thursday, January 8, the team traveled to Wyoming Indian to take on the #4 ranked Lady Chiefs. In a venue which is always tough to negotiate, the Lady Cats played well but were not able to keep up with Wyoming Indian - losing by 15 points (66-51). In the early season the two teams have each played a number of Class 3A and 4A teams, however, 2A competition has been slim. Several members of the Thermopolis Wrestling Club (TWC) traveled with Team Wyoming to Utah last weekend to compete first at the Christmas Clash Duals in Farmington and then at the Salt Lake Slam. The Christmas Clash was held at the Western Sports Park in Farmington, Utah, on January 2. It is one of the largest youth dual wrestling events in the Mountain West and features boys and girls wrestlers from both elementary and middle school levels. On December 30 the Board of Directors of Hot Springs Health met for their last regular monthly meeting. CEO Scott Alwin reviewed for the board the steps which have been taken to update the Community Health Needs Assessment for Hot Springs County. In the last week before the holiday break, the Thermopolis Bobcats had a dual in Greybull and then traveled to Worland to participate at the Battle in the Big Horns Tournament. At the second regularly scheduled Thermopolis Town Council meeting for the month of December, the council held a public informational hearing on the Town’s Lead Service Line Investigation & Replacement Project.
