Gloria Simmons

1942-2025

Gloria Simmons peacefully passed away in the Thermopolis Rehabilitation Center on July 4, 2025 . She began her life's journey on December 22, 1942. She was the fourth of five daughters born to Dr. Harvey & Hilda Hull of Ogden, Utah.

Growing up she enjoyed drama and sports. She married Kent Simmons on December 16, 1965. She said it was "love at first sight" while going on a double date. They had three children, Adella, Kenny and Harvey, which she raised alone when Kent went into the Army. Kenny had mental challenges, which Gloria powered through with him never giving up on his behalf. When her husband died, she never remarried. She and Kent were sealed in the LDS Temple and she  looked forward to being with him again someday.

She went back to college to get her bachelor's degree. She worked at a mental institution as well as many other jobs, always doing what needed to be done to keep her family together. She was very dependable and a hard worker. When she moved her family to Thermopolis, Wyo., in 1996, she worked at BHE and later at the Armory for the Recreation Department.

She loved meeting new people. She loved visiting with people hearing people's life stories. Hearing what other people are going through and the different challenges that they're going through. She would put their names on the temple prayer roll for she knew the Savior is our great healer and she was a woman of great faith who knew the power of prayers. She held several callings in the church and especially enjoyed working with the youth.

She loved doing exciting things and going on vacation trips with her family. She traveled to Montana, Riverton, and Cody a lot. She would bring her granddaughters, Selena and Allyssa, and was very strong hearted on family gatherings; if she called you her family, you were her family. She cared so much for other people. If she had the ability to take away people's pain, she would encourage them. She never liked seeing people go through challenges or anything that would upset them. She was a great example for what a grandmother should be. She is loved so much and showed it to residents at TRC and was ever so grateful for any and all things the workers there did for her. She did everything for her family and will be greatly missed every single day.

She enjoyed participating in Wyoming Senior Olympics for several years competing in swimming and track and field events. Her enthusiasm at those events gave her the nickname "Glo" She thoroughly enjoyed participating even though she was the last one to reach the finish line. Many cheered her on then and are still cheering her on now, on the other side. She has fulfilled her mission on this earth and can have her greatest desire which was to be in the celestial Kingdom with her husband Kent.

She was preceded by her parents; son, Harvey; sisters, Sonja and Suzanne; and many others.

She leaves behind to cherish many wonderful memories her daughter, Adella of Thermopolis; son, Kenny of Worland; granddaughters, Allyssa of Thermopolis and Selena and great-grandson, Felix, of Worland; and sisters, Ilse and Jennifer in Florida.

Her burial took place in the Thermopolis Cemetery and her funeral was held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Monday, July 7.
