On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Monday, Dec. 18

10:42 a.m. Deputies helped an individual who was reporting spam calls.

3:58 p.m. Agency assist for the Police Department.

5:54 p.m. Report of a vehicle versus deer crash on 130 Highway 20 South.

Tuesday, Dec. 19

1:00 p.m. Report of an unattended death of an individual found deceased.

Wednesday, Dec. 20

12:19 p.m. Agency assist for the Police Department.

2:49 p.m. Deputies towed an abandoned vehicle in the area of the 100 block of Fremont Street. 

4:43 p.m. Deputies responded to a medical call on Highway 20 North.

5:21 p.m. Deputies provided a civil standby on Missouri Flat Road.

Thursday, Dec. 21

7:06 a.m. Agency assist for the Police Department.

12:10 p.m. Deputies took a report of identity fraud.

6:58 p.m. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a dangerous driver on Highway 20 North. 

Friday, Dec. 22

3:48 p.m. Agency assist for the Police Department.

4:50 p.m. Deputies assisted emergency medical services on a medical call.

10:35 p.m. Agency assist for the Police Department.

Saturday, Dec. 23

3:10 p.m. Deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash in the area of mile marker 1 on Highway 120. 

8:30 p.m. Report of a vehicle left abandoned on private property on Jones Road.

Sunday, Dec. 24

3:18 p.m. Report of a vehicle that went off the road. The driver was okay.

Police Department

Monday, Dec. 18

3:36 p.m. A female in the 200 block of South 8th Street was given a warning for dogs running at large. 

4:10 p.m. Officers responded to the middle school to speak with a female about the improper use of her words. No action was taken by law enforcement.

3:58 p.m. Megan Ruth Bird, 27, was arrested for allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol, a third offense, careless driving, and having an inoperable stop lamp. The incident occurred in the 200 block of North 8th Street.

Tuesday, Dec. 19

11:17 a.m. Report of a bomb threat that was determined to be a hoax. Information was forwarded to the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation. 

Wednesday, Dec. 20

12:19 p.m. Report of a juvenile female walking barefoot on South 14th Street. The juvenile female was returned home and was okay.

Thursday, Dec. 21

7:06 a.m. Report of a domestic problem in the 600 block of Maiden Street. A male and a female were separated and provided family resources assistance. 

2:53 p.m. Report of a vehicle crash involving injuries and towing of two vehicles occurred at the intersection of Amoretti Street and South 6th Street. Contact was made with the driver, Ashley Marie Engelbrecht, 32, who was subsequently placed under arrest for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and a stop sign violation.

10:42 a.m. Report of unwanted mail solicitation.

5:24 p.m. Officers responded and investigated a non-injury traffic accident at 6th and Arapahoe. 

Friday, Dec. 22

11:53 a.m. Agency assist for the Department of Family Services with a citizen contact. No law enforcement action was taken.

3:48 p.m. Jessica Boedeker, 42, was arrested on a warrant for bond violation. Her original charges were for possession of a controlled substance, meth.

4:58 p.m. Officers received information from a female subject regarding a cold domestic incident that occurred in the Thermopolis area earlier in the day. 

10:35 p.m. Officers made contact with an 18-year-old male regarding a possible gun violation.

Saturday, Dec. 23

11:25 a.m. Report of a female driver who left her vehicle out of park in the 1200 block of Johnson Street, which caused her vehicle to roll down the street and collide into the back of a parked car. A crash report was created, and no injuries occurred. 

Birth

Ansen Cousineau was born on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at 11:47 p.m. at Hot Springs Health to Alli Schwalbe and Anthony Cousineau.

He weighed 8 pounds, 5 ounces and was 21 inches long.

Circuit Court

Caleb J. Kessler was bound over to District Court for possession of a controlled narcotic substance, Schedule I or II, felony amount, and possession of a controlled substance, powder or crystal, three grams or less.

Michael Randolph, driving while under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance combo, first offense within 10 years, 30 days jail, 28 days suspended, six months unsupervised probation, fees and fines $420.

William D. Jamieson, littering, fees and fines $250.

Sara Cheatham was bound over to District Court for possession of a controlled substance, Schedule I or II, felony amount, and possession of a controlled substance, pill or cap, three grams or less, and defraud drug & alcohol test: possess adulterants, first offense, and manufacture or deliver meth or narcotic controlled substance, Schedule I or II.
