On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Monday, Nov. 13

4:28 p.m. Agency assist for emergency medical services.

Tuesday, Nov. 14

9:43 a.m. A person reported they received suspicious checks in the mail after responding to a social media advertisement. The checks appear to be fraudulent, and this appears to be a common scam technique. The premise of the scam is for the victim to cash the fraudulent checks and send money back to the scammer, putting the victim out of money. This scam was caught early and no money was lost. 

Wednesday, Nov. 15

2:16 p.m. Deputies responded to the report of shoplifting. They were unable to locate the suspect in the area.

8:31 a.m. Report of the theft of $9,000 worth of gravel. The case is currently under investigation and is possibly a civil issue.

Thursday, Nov. 16

10:50 a.m. Deputies checked on the welfare of a horse and mule. They were okay.

5:01 p.m. Agency assist for the Police Department.

Friday, Nov. 17

2:28 p.m. Report of an employee who allegedly stole items from a business employee housing on Grass Creek Road.

4:13 p.m. Ryan James Combs, 33, from Denver, Colo., Elida Mercedes Sanchez, 45, from Parker, Colo., and Sarah Beret Louise Mcgrew, 42, from Aurora, Colo., were all arrested for alleged possession of a controlled substance, marijuana and meth.

5:08 p.m. Civil problem involving a child custody exchange.

Saturday, Nov. 18 

8:37 p.m. Deputies responded to check on a 911 hang up. 

Sunday, Nov. 19

1:09 p.m. A traffic stop was performed on a vehicle for road rage behavior that almost caused a crash. The 21-year-old male driver was issued citations for following too closely, failure to signal within 100 feet, careless driving, and cracked windshield.

Monday, Nov. 13

7:25 p.m. A 76-year-old male was cited for breach of peace. 

Tuesday, Nov. 14

3:02 p.m. A 16-year-old male was cited for possession of tobacco at the high school. 

3:18 p.m. A 17-year-old male was cited for possession of tobacco at the high school 

11:44 a.m. Report of multiple live cat traps that have been placed in the Canyon Hills Trailer Park to help catch the overpopulation of feral cats in the area. 

4:03 p.m. An adult female received a cashier’s check in the mail for $2,950 and cashed it. The bank caught the check as a fraud.

Wednesday, Nov. 15

12:57 a.m. Autumn Raini Smith, 27, was arrested for alleged probation sanction, breach of peace, interference with a peace officer, and pedestrian under influence of alcohol.

6:40 a.m. Report of live cat traps that were placed in the Canyon Hills Trailer park to help control the over populated feral cat problem. 

Thursday, Nov. 16

4:10 p.m. Report of an elderly female who received a scam phone call. The caller said that her grandson was in a wreck in California and he killed a pregnant woman and was in jail. The caller said the bond was $3,500 to release her grandson. The victim of the caller was about to send the money, but her daughter realized it was fraud and called law enforcement. No money was lost.

4:36 p.m. Agency assist involving the Department of Family Services with possible financial exploitation of a vulnerable elderly adult in the 1200 block of Clark Street. 

5:01 p.m. Report of a possibly suicidal juvenile female The female is okay.

Friday, Nov. 17

9:20 a.m. Report of a vehicle collision that occurred in the Hot Springs County High School administration parking lot. The driver of a vehicle backed into another vehicle.

12:42 p.m. Report of a juvenile male littering in the back alley of the 500 block of Broadway Street. Litter was cleaned by the juvenile male after being asked to clean it. 

10:12 p.m. A purse was recovered in the 600 block of Shoshoni Street and returned to an adult female. 

Saturday, Nov. 18 

3:01 a.m. An off-duty police officer was at a convenience store, saw two intoxicated males enter a vehicle and approached the driver, asking him if it was a good idea to drive. The driver responded with some explictives and drove off. 

3:01 a.m. A REDDI report occurred in the 400 block of South 6th Street. An officer located the registered owner parked in the driveway. 

Sunday, Nov. 19

10:35 a.m. Report of an adult female driver who pulled out onto 6th Street and hit a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old female driving south on 6th Street.

Circuit Court

Tuff S. Taylor, under age 21, possession of alcohol, fees and fines $270.

Daniel B. Caldwell, hunt, trap, fish or collect antlers/horns on private land without permission, fees and fines $450.

Michael J. Berry, driving while under the influence of alcohol, equal to or greater than .08% within two hours of driving, second offense within 10 years, 180 days jail, 173 days suspended, one year unsupervised probation, fees and fines $420 and driving while license suspended, if suspended for 31-5-229 or 31-5-233, 180 days jail, 173 days suspended, fees and fines $270.

William C. Bradford was bound over to District Court for causing bodily injury to a peace officer and interference with a peace officer.

Robert A. Whitt, import of domestic animals, first offense, fees and fines $150 and five counts of goats run at large, fees and fines $150 each.
