Local community events are being planned to honor veterans on and around Veterans Day, 2023.
The first event will be a Parking Lot Parade on Thursday, Nov. 9 from 9-9:20 a.m. at Ralph Witters Elementary. Veterans are asked to participate by entering the RWE loading zone/parking lot off of Springview St. near the administration building beginning at 9 a.m. Students and staff will be outside to welcome and celebrate our local veterans as the drive through the parking lot loop. When the parade is over veterans are invited to come inside for donuts and coffee in the RWE cafeteria.
The Thermopolis Middle School Student Council is hosting their annual Veterans Day assembly on Friday, Nov. 10 at 10 a.m. in the school auditorium. They will be honoring three veterans with Quilts of Valor.
They will have guest musical talents of Tiffany Simeral and her musical students and Hot Springs County High School senior Aidan Freeman will be playing TAPS.
VFW Post 2281 will be honoring local veterans in a ceremony on Veterans Day, Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the post, 302 Broadway. Later that day, veterans and their families are invited to dinner beginning at 6 a.m. at the VFW.
