Chamber board discusses events

At the October Thermopolis-Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce board meeting, during old business CEO Meri Ann Dorman discussed the Demolition Derby that was held in August. In the discussion, they covered the Mad Dog prize, which is used to attract more drivers, and the capacity issues due to the location as there are limits to the event as a fundraiser for the chamber. The funds go to pay for the chamber’s staff. They also discussed insurance for the event.

Regarding the Chamber Banquet that was on October 7, Dorman said they are looking at making changes for future banquets that are still to be determined.

November 2 the chamber will hold a meeting for its Board Fundaments from 12:30-4:30 p.m. This can be useful training for your organization. This meeting will be in the Big Horn Federal conference room.

Saturday, November 4 they will decorate the downtown light poles and the garlands at the Bicentennial Park. Dorman said, “Any volunteers are great to attend. Please wear warm clothes.” The Lighted Christmas Parade will be on December 2 at 6 p.m.

Howie Samelson reported on behalf of Main Street Thermopolis and said that the Love Local program started and the decorative lighting has been completed. Also, the mural on the east side of the old fire hall will be complete soon if the weather permits it.

In the director’s report, Dorman discussed the task force for the shooting complex as there was a meeting last September in Riverton. They are determining the checklist of requirements for proposals. In November, they will have pre-requests for proposals and they will be due sometime in the spring. Dorman said that the Hot Springs County representation at the meeting was “impressive” with five members in attendance.

The chamber office will be closed from December 23 through January 1.

The chamber’s next meeting will be on November 9, 6 p.m. at Big Horn Federal.
