Town clean up scheduled

At the May 2 Thermopolis Town Council meeting held at Town Hall, Codes administrator Jim Jeunehomme said the Town’s Spring Clean Up will be from May 15 through May 21.

All residents and business owners are encouraged to clean their property in preparation for the upcoming summer season.

Four large dumpsters will be located at the following addresses for residents to use: 14th Street next to the tennis courts, intersection of 9th and Big Horn Streets, intersection of 8th and Amoretti Streets, and the 200 block of 2nd Street.

There will also be a Free Dump Day at the town landfill for all town and county residents on Saturday, May 21 from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Town landfill rules still apply. Normal charges will still apply for tires and appliances with freon.

Do not put the following items in dumpsters: tires, appliances with freon, concrete, gravel, or dirt. No construction debris generated by contractors. No hazardous waste, such as oil, paint, batteries, or solvents. The town officials ask that if you cut down an entire tree that you not put it in the dumpsters, please take it to the landfill.

Please see the Town of Thermopolis advertisement on page 10 for more details.

Jeunehomme also presented a request for a fence permit located in the town’s right of way, located on Amoretti Street and 11th Street. The fence will be four feet high and be mesh see-through. It will not block the visibility of traffic and will not interfere with a sidewalk should the town install one. The council voted and passed the approval of the fence permit.

During citizen participation, Gary Green and Meri Ann Dorman presented a request for the use of the old firehouse for their Brewfest event so that their band can use the space regardless of the weather. Their other request was for a one-day liquor permit. The council voted and passed the approval of both requests.

Lara Shook of Central Bank and Trust made a request for a 24-hour alcohol beverage sales permit for their Beer & Brats event in the Hot Springs State Park. There was discussion on how they would control the situation. The council voted and passed the approval of the alcohol beverage sales permit.

Town Engineer Anthony Barnett informed the council that they have substantial completion of the water project and that it closed within their budget year.

The council voted and passed the approval of council member Bill Malloy to be appointed as a delegate to the WAM Spring Conference.

After an executive session regarding personnel, Mayor Adam Estensen announced the retirement date of Director of Public Works Ernie Slagle as May 15 and voted and passed the approval of Basil Sorenson as Interim of Public Works for the time being.

Mayor Estenson also said they are getting closer to setting up live streaming of the council meetings and they have applied for a government web domain address.
