Golf season begins

The 2023 spring high school golf season started with Bobcats competing at at the Worland Invite last Friday. The Bobcats faced off with golfers from ten other teams and came in 4th with an overall team score of 373.

Individually, for the high school varsity boys, Hadley Johnson shot an 83, Hayden Overfield an 87, Jonah Needham a 98, Tyler Chrisien a 105 and Lance Axtell a 128.

For the middle school boys, Trevin Shaffer shot a 98, Ty Simeral a 97, Camden Weyer a 125 and Hayden Johnson a 105.

Coach Brandon Deromedi said, "I thought we had a great start to the spring 2023 season. This season has been a slow and cold start due to the unprecedented snow and cold this winter. We spent the entire first week of the season in the classroom at the high school working on rules, rule changes, etiquette, terminology, etc. It is very hard to keep their interest indoors when they have the itch to golf."  He added, "Last week, the team got up on the course and got a few things moving but still, were limited due to the course being closed.  Course conditions around the state aren't great for anyone, with some courses seeing 8-12" of snow on their courses still today.  We are very fortunate that our golf course and especially our green's keeper have worked hard to let us on."

To start the 2023 spring campaign the Bobcats have 30 golfers in grades 6-12.  "This is the most we have had on the team in a long time. With that we have had a lot of beginners join and that is exciting for the future of Bobcat golf and golf in Hot Springs County," said coach Deromedi.

He added, "We took nine players with us to Worland and I felt that all of them played really well given the current state of spring golf in Wyoming. We had 2 top 10 finishes on the boys side and the boys team ended up 4th out of 10 teams. This go round, we didn't have girls with us but I know each one of them is improving and looking forward to playing soon."

Coach Deromedi commented on the TMS golfers. "We also took four middle school boys with us. These four young men really impressed me!  We had a couple shoot in the 90's and a couple in the 100's. While I know they felt they could do better, I think this is a phenomenal start to their seasons. I anticipate each one improving by 5-20 strokes by the end of the spring season. I have loved working with every kid so far as they have all had a growth mindset to improve their golf game, that is all we can ask for."
