Crews Battle Structure Fire

On March 3 at approximately 7 p.m. the Thermopolis Volunteer Fire Department (TVFD) was dispatched to Sunnyview Drive for a reported structure fire. Firefighters arrived to find an active fire burning on the outside deck of a single-family dwelling. The fire extended into the interior of the structure. Firefighters attacked and extinguished the fire. Fire crews returned to the scene throughout the following hours to ensure the fire did not re-ignite. The residents of the home and their pets safely evacuated the home prior to the TVFD arrival. At the time of this release, no injuries related to this incident have been reported.

Firefighters responded to the scene with five units: two engines, one rescue, and two water tenders. Fire crews were assisted by Mortimore Ambulance Service, Hot Springs County Sheriff’s Office, Wyoming Highway Patrol, Regional Water, and Wyoming Gas. Due to the fire damage, the residents were unable to return home. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Thermopolis Fire Department reminds everyone that working smoke alarms save lives. Smoke alarms should be located on every floor of your residence, in common living areas and in sleeping areas. Test your smoke alarms monthly to ensure that they are in proper working order. If you have smoke alarms that require an external battery, be sure to change the battery twice a year. Newer smoke detectors often come with internal batteries that may last up to 10 years without replacement. All smoke detectors should be replaced after 10 years of use.
