Injured hunter rescued

On September 16, at approximately 6:06 p.m. hours, Hot Springs County Search and Rescue responded to a report of an injured person near Cottonwood Peak, in the Wilderness area of the Shoshone National Forest. The original report was made on the scene through a Garmin inReach device.

One SAR crew responded by vehicle and side by side, while a second SAR crew was taken into the area via helicopter by Guardian Flight to walk in to the patient. The crew on foot was unable to reach the patient due to their distance, terrain, and darkness that had set in.

At around 12:30 a.m., the crew on side by side arrived in the area and was able to help load the patient into a second Guardian Flight helicopter to be taken to the hospital for care.

While the crew in the side by side was able to return to base around sunrise, the crew on foot had to make camp for the night on the mountain.

Tip Top Search and Rescue responded with their own helicopter after daylight to help extract our last team members from the ridge they were camped on.

Other agencies involved include: Park County Search and Rescue (Park County Sheriff's Office), Sublette County Search and Rescue (Sublette County Sheriff's Office), and the Big Horn Basin Amateur Radio Club of NW Wyoming.
