TMS football kicks off with win

The Thermopolis Middle School Football team started their season off with a victory over Shoshoni on Sept. 3.

Coach Shane Corpening said “I thought we played really well from the start. We scored on our first offensive possession. The team obviously has a lot of things we need to clean up. There were way too many penalties and first game mistakes. Those things will be focal points for our practice this upcoming week. Defensively, we were consistent throughout the game. As mentioned, our secondary gradually improved as the game went on. The team gave up a long touchdown pass, but other than that we were really solid on that end.”

Mack Buckner had 2 touchdowns in the game. Coach Corpening stated, “Mack offensively played really well. He ran the ball hard and scored on two long touchdowns. Cannon Boren did a great job of commanding the offense from the quarterback position. Our offensive line did a good job of fitting their blocks and providing holes for our running backs. Defensively, Cannon Boren was all over the field. He recorded a bunch of tackles. Our secondary improved throughout the game and Brendan Mann did a good job on special teams.”

Final score of the game was Thermopolis 22, Shoshoni 6.

Information on the Lander game was not available at press time.

The boys are up next this Thursday at home vs. Worland starting at 4:15 p.m.
