Town Council holds brief meeting

On August 2, the Thermopolis Town Council held a brief meeting at Town Hall. During citizen participation, the council voted and passed the approval of liquor and catering permits. One was for OEB for the Demolition Derby on August 13. The other was for Shorty’s at the River Dance on August 18.

Town engineer Anthony Barnett gave an update on the water project. Regarding work being done on 8th Street between Fremont and Clark, there was a large amount of “muck” in the soil surrounding the pipes. This shows a great amount of leakage and a need to replace the water pipes.

Town attorney Mike Messenger presented the cable TV franchise ordinance for its second reading. Its first paragraph states, “An ordinance granting a nonexclusive franchise to Spectrum Pacific West, LLS for installation and operation of a cable service for distribution and sale to customers within the Town of Thermopolis; ratifying and approving the nonexclusive franchise agreement with Spectrum Pacific West.” The council voted and passed the approval of the ordinance in the second reading. There will be a total of three readings and their approvals before the ordinance becomes official.

Under administration, Fred Crosby said that they are working on an ARPA grant application to be completed by August 12.

Crosby also reported that they have an agreement with WYDOT to do work on the Broadway bridge. At this time, they do not know if it will be a resurfacing job or a total replacement, as it is being investigated.
