Thermopolis Baseball in full swing

Jason Ciz, director of Thermopolis Baseball, reported that they are in the middle of their season, and said, "We're kind of hot and heavy about every night of the week."

The athletes meet every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 6 p.m. for either practice or competition in the baseball fields north of town below T-Hill and near the Armory.

There are 75 athletes between the ages of five and 15 years old. They are divided into age groups: Babe Ruth (13-15), Little League (9-12), and Coach Pitch for kids who haven't played. (8-10), and T-Ball (5-7).

Ciz said, "It's going really well. We've got a lot of younger kids so our biggest division is actually T-ball. We've got around 30 kids out in T-ball. The youth is definitely going to be coming on strong, hopefully."

Thermopolis Baseball competes against Greybull, Worland, and Otto, and depending on the schedule, there are home games and travel games to these locations.

Ciz also explained that there are inner squad competitions and Little League as well.

Ciz added, "We divided our Little League teams up into purple and gold. They play each other and then some out-of-town games as well. And then our Coach Pitch is divided up into two teams, but they're just all in our squad."

Regarding attendance at the games, Ciz wishes it was better but recognizes the parents who come and call them "the driving force."

On Tuesday nights, adult softball also uses the fields which makes the complex have a lot going on with the number of people.

Ciz speaks highly of the athletes and said they are "Really good, our Little League teams are really growing right now and learning the fundamentals. They've made a lot of strides in the last two to three weeks."

Ciz is supported by the other coaches who include Matt McPhie, Wade Lippincott, James Coates and Chauncey Johnson, who all cover the Little League. Eric Mackay, Sean Boren and Billy Dafoe also contribute to the coaching.

The season began on May 9 and ends on June 30.
