H Diamond W Youth Camp holds appreciation day

H Diamond W Youth Camp is holding its Appreciation Day on Sunday, June 26 from 2-4 p.m at the camp on Grass Creek.

Camp representative Ray Shaffer explained that there had been many upgrades to modernize the camp over the last eight years. Additionally, they received a large grant from the Daniels Fund. Shaffer added, “We’re inviting the public in to celebrate with us. We’re going to have a donor appreciation day. We’re going to roast a pig in the ground with other foods too. And to have folks come and look at us.”

Shaffer said upgrades are in multiple areas. He said, “We’ve completely remodeled a whole new kitchen floor, and appliances and laundry facilities are all new. Everything’s new in the kitchen. It’s a state-of-the-art kitchen. Just like you try to in any restaurant or anything. We’re up to code and we’re still in the process. We’re going to do more in there.”

Shaffer added, “We’re going to put in new doors and windows and several other things. We’ve got five cabins up there now for campers to stay in. We’ve redeveloped the water system, septic system and the gas system. Everything’s new. Everything has been there for over 50 years and so it was time for an upgrade.”

Shaffer and his team appreciate all the support from the community and their hospitality.

Shaffer continued and said that the location is primarily for youth camps, but other organizations can use it as well, such as for weddings, retreats, and conventions. He added, “We want people to use it, so come and look at it.”

The Appreciation Day is free for the public.

Directions to the camp are, head west from Thermopolis on Highway 120 and turn onto Grass Creek Road on 171. Travel about nine miles and follow Road 36, a gravel road for the next 20 miles to the camp.
