Wrestlers face tough competition at Ron Thon

The Bobcat Wrestlers hosted the Buffalo Bison in a dual last Thursday. The Bison were down wrestlers so in all there were only eight matches and the Bobcats walked away with the win, 44-15. 

"We had some nerves with our first home dual of the year and it showed in a few of the matches," said coach Travis McDermott. 

Lance Axtell had a great win to get the crowd going over Troy Moe. Will Ward and Colter Price finished the dual with pins. Lance Axtell won with a fall in 1:05, Brody Sorensen, with a fall at 1:23, Jarek Sorensen with a fall at 1:41, Will Ward with a fall at 2:35 and Austin Barral with a fall at 2:43.  Colter Price won his match 9-0 and Wyatt McDermott won 8-0.  

Friday and Saturday the Bobcats traveled to Riverton to one of the largest tournaments of the season at the annual Ron Thon Invitational.  At the Ron Thon almost all schools in Wyoming attend and bring the best wrestlers in the state. 

Will Ward, Wyatt McDermott and Jarek Sorensen survived into the second day from the field of Bobcat varsity Wrestlers.  

Ward got a win late Friday over Mickelson of Lovell and Sorensen battled on Saturday and got a win over Haws from Evanston. 

McDermott wrestled the toughest tournament he has ever been in. McDermott drew the eventual champion Brenton of Natrona losing the first match but making a remarkable run in the second round pinning Tanner Case of Mountain View.  Saturday McDermott got a major decision over Laramie's Alvarez. McDermott continued to battle many top wrestlers and finished the tournament placing 5th.

Varsity Bobcats standings at the Ron Thon include: Wyatt McDermott at 145 lbs 5-2 placing 5th, Jarek Sorensen at 195 lbs 1-2, Will Ward at 113 lbs 1-2, Jessen Basse at 132 lbs 0-2, Seth Needham at 138 lbs 0-2, Brody Sorensen at 152 lbs 0-2 and Austin Barral at 182 lbs 0-2.

JV Bobcats had some gritty performances with five matches on Saturday. 

Colter Price went 6-2 and came home with 5th place.  Zane Stam lost his first match and fought his way back winning 5 matches in a row ending up with 6th place. 

JV results from the Ron Thon are as follows: Coulter Price at 120 lbs 6-2 winning 5th place, Zane Stam at 126 lbs 6-3 winning 6th place, JoJo Crow at 106 lbs 1-2, Lance Axtell at 113 lbs 0-2, Ethan Yarrington at 132 lbs 2-2, Daniel Blair at 132 lbs 0-2, Logan Dafoe at 138 lbs 1-2, Luke Dickey at 138 lbs 0-2, and Sam Skelton at 152 lbs 3-2.

This week the Bobcatsfaced Cody on Tuesday for a dual. The Bobcats senior night will be Thursday against Worland with wrestling action beginning at 6 p.m. at the high school.  On Saturday the Cats will travel to a tournament in Greybull.
