High school basketball season kicks off

The Thermopolis Bobcat Varsity and JV basketball teams traveled to Burns this past weekend for the Burns Classic. 

The Varsity girls started their season against Torrington on Friday. 

The ladies started off nervous and didn’t get into the groove until the fourth quarter which contributed to the loss against Torrington 41-23.

Sadie Burr scored 11 points and Kamry Bowman 7 points. 

The Lady Cats took on Burns next and fought hard but unfortunately missed opportunities early in the game missing some key free throws in the third quarter that could have given them the lead. They lost 39-32.

Against Burns the Lady Cats showed better defense and started to settle into the game where they struggled getting their shots to fall. 

On Saturday the Lady Cats showed up defensively and fought hard against Wheatland. 

The Lady Cats played aggressively, unfortunately getting them into foul trouble early in the game and contributing to the loss against Wheatland 44-34. 

High scorer in this game was Kamry Bowman with 14 points with the team evenly contributing with the other points. 

“I am excited with the effort and willingness to improve each game. It will take time to get adjusted to the new philosophy of offense and defense but they are buying into it” said Coach David Villa about the Lady Cats and the start of the season. 

The Lady Cat JV team at the Burns Classic did not walk away with a win but continued to play hard and play as a team. 

Thermopolis against Torrington final score was 25-66 and Thermopolis vs Wheatland final score was 12-66. 

Bobcat Boys Varsity team Friday at the Burns Classic lost to Torrington in a double overtime 53-54.  The Cats continued to fight hard and keep up with Torrington losing by only one point.  On Friday The Bobcats went up against Burns ending in a loss 39-63.  On Saturday the Bobcats lost to Wheatland 46-66.  

No coaches comments on the boys games were received at press time.

The freshman games that were scheduled against Worland were cancelled so the Bobcats could travel to Burns before the weather turned bad. 

Upcoming this Friday and Saturday the Freshman boys and girls will be in Lovell. 

Varsity and JV boys and girls Bobcats will be at home Saturday against Glenrock, JV girls play at 12 p.m. and boys at 1:30 p.m. 

Varsity games are Lady Cats at 2:30 p.m. and Bobcat boys at 4 p.m. Games will be held in the high school gym. Come out and cheer on the Cats.
