Lady Cats hosting Newcastle Friday

The Lady Cats volleyball team traveled to Douglas on Saturday and played Burns.

The varsity team lost in three games and both JV and Freshman lost in two.

“Varsity started out playing well and would get a lead and then let Burns go on a run so then we would be behind by a few points and then have to catch back up.  We blocked really well in the first game and played great defense against Burns’ tough hitters but we lost that momentum a little bit in games two and three,” said coach Shannon Hill.

She added, “In game two we missed five serves which makes it difficult to win a game with that many unforced errors.  Burns played well, but we need to step up and be more competitive in matches and then keep that drive consistently. We are focusing on that in practice this week.”

Hill said Caydence Becher did a great job keeping the girls in the match with her serves, defense and smart plays on offense.

“Our passers did well in serve/receive, we just need to step up our offense and not play tentative. Lexi led our offense with 10 kills at the net and two blocks,” added Hill.

“Our Freshman and JV played well, they just couldn’t finish in the end.  We are seeing great improvements in our younger girls with freshmen like Sofia Gerber and Lexi Garrison starting to jump serve and really be effective in that aspect of the game. Our JV remains competitive, and making a lot of improvements as far as ball control goes in the back row,” said Hill

Varsity Scores: 23-25, 19-25, 18-25.

Stats:

Becher - 3 aces; 23 assists; 10 digs.

Overfield - 10 kills; 2 blocks; 1 ace.

The Lady Cats will play in Burlington on Thursday then at home Friday evening.
