Farmers Market offers local goods

The Red Dirt Master Gardener's Farmers Market is back in full swing every Saturday from 8 a.m.-noon, downtown at the corner of 5th Street and Broadway. This year's Farmers Market will run through Sat., Oct. 16.

Items for sale will include locally grown food, baked goods and handmade items. If you are interested in selling your items at the market, space is available. The fee is $5 each time, or $25 for the entire season. You can pre register or show up on Saturday morning and the paperwork will be available there. Vendors will need to provide their own tables and chairs. Items sold must be homegrown or handmade.

As for the early start this year market coordinator Douglas Nelson said "Other communities start before we do, so we wanted to start earlier than normal this year to see how it would work here." Nelson said so far items have included anything from honey all the way to fresh meat.

The weekly Farmer's Market is free to attend and the community is encouraged to come out and support small town agriculture and producers.

For more information or to register, contact Douglas Nelson at 921-2427.
