Wrestlers working hard

Bobcat wrestlers were in Powell Thursday night of last week for two duals with Powell and Cody.

“We came out in our first dual flat and didn’t perform as well as we should have. We had four wins with Wyatt McDermott, Logan Cole, and Remington Ferree winning their matches with early falls,” said coach McDermott.

In the second dual against Cody the Bobcats came out with more fire and fought hard. Dalton Price, McDermott, Roedy Farrell, Cole, and Ferree got wins.

“Farrell had some tough matches against the #2 ranked Powell and defending state 3A champion. He made a mistake on top and got caught on his back. In his second match he bounced back and dominated the #6 ranked 3A wrestler for a win,” said coach McDermott

On Saturday. The wrestlers traveled to Lyman for a dual tournament.

“In our first dual against Lyman we came out and battled hard. Farrell again had a ranked 3A wrestler and was dominating the match and got caught in a scramble,” said coach McDermott.

McDermott and Jarek Sorensen got the only varsity wins as they didn’t have many matchups especially in the upper weights.

In the second dual the Bobcats earned a much needed team win against Saratoga with McDermott moving up to 145 to beat a past state champion with a pin.

“Mason Reese also got a big pin to put us over the top, said coach McDermott.

Sorenson got a tough two point win. Cole and Ferree also got wins.

“In our final dual of the weekend against Mountain View we got a great win with one of our best team efforts. Took all of the wrestlers to get that victory,” said coach McDermott.

Jessen Basse kept the score close enough to keep a point away from MV. McDermott got a bonus point with a good win over the #7 3A ranked wrestler. Farrell, Cole, Sorensen and Ferree all got falls to win the dual by one point.

“With two weeks to go in the regular season our kids are still working hard to get to their goals and make it to state. Our conditioning is getting to where is needs to be and attitudes are good. Skill development is still being pushed hard to get to the level we need to be for regionals in Thermopolis,” said McDermott.

This week the Bobcat wrestlers will be in Glenrock Friday night and Shoshoni on Saturday.
