Town Council approves parades

At the most recent Town Council meeting during citizen participation, Chamber of Commerce Director Meri Ann Rush requested town approval of their lighted Christmas parade on Friday, December 4 at 6 p.m. She asked for street closures for the same route as last year’s event. The theme for this year’s parade is “Santa’s Workshop.” The council voted and approved Rush’s request.

Citizen Gary Sikes also approached the council requesting permission for a parade for supporters of President Trump’s campaign on October 28 from 5:30 until 6 p.m. There would be no floats and no street closures. It will consist of mainly vehicles and 4x4s with flags and banners. The route is similar to the Car Parade. Sikes also requested a police escort, which Mayor Mike Chimenti said Sikes can discuss the matter with Police Chief Julie Mathews. The council voted and approved Sike’s request.

Wyoming district 28 house representative John Winter spoke about the constitutional amendment on the ballot for November 3 about deciding whether to remove a four percent cap on the amount of debt Wyoming towns can have for funding renewing their sewage systems. Winter said that most of the public doesn’t know about the issues and that even he had to read up on it. Assistant to Mayor Fred Crosby said that this issue doesn’t really affect Thermopolis however it was noted that Meeteesee did some revamping of their sewage system and they would have some firsthand knowledge. The change to the constitutional amendment doesn’t cost anything and doesn’t affect the Basin much.

Thermopolis Golf Course Board president Tobi Johansen presented their minutes to the council and was available for any questions. He said they have carts available and their membership fees are the same as last year at $528 for singles.

He also said they cleared up some confusion for cart fees for a 9 hole play. It was eight dollars per person and $16 per two people. But there was no manpower to police conflict of how many people were actually using a cart for play. So they changed the fee to $12 for as many on a cart as possible.
