Strong finishes for cross country on home course

The Bobcat Cross Country team held their home invitational last Saturday morning with cooler weather, making things much more comfortable for the competitors.

"Cross country ran hard at our home meet," said head coach Stephanie Metz, "but we didn't have the times we were hoping for overall.

"Corbin Simeral ran an amazing race and was able to lead our boys team with a 19:38."

Right behind Simeral was Seth Needham, who ran a 22:23, just tenths of a second ahead of Jesse Rodriguez and his 22:53.

Ryan Miller was next over the finish line with a 26:04 and right on his heels with a 26:11 was Isaac Robinson. Karsten Hart rounded out the boy's times with a 29:53.

On the girls side, Jayda Griffin led the way with a 24:12. Ruthanne Johnson was only a few steps behind her with a 24:39, followed by Hallie Martinez' 25:53. Rebekah Johnson came in with a 28:53 and Elizabeth Kellar crossed the line at the 29:56 mark.

"We plan to use this weekend's meet as a mental drive going into the Worland Invite this Thursday, but also to start prepping for the State meet in Douglas," Metz said. "We have three meets left until State, and the teams are looking good and are working hard to represent Thermopolis."
