On the front page of this edition, you might notice we toot our own horn a bit, as we’re partnering with Hot Springs Travel and Tourism to distribute our annual visitor guide. Though the guide is only put out once per year, it’s something we work on for more than just a few days. In our day-to-day, we might have an idea pop up or a picture taken that won’t see print until it’s in the guide.
The partnership with Travel and Tourism is one of the bigger steps in that improvement process, as it helps to share the story of Thermopolis to more of Wyoming and beyond.
Such partnerships are an integral part of improving not only the businesses involved but the community as a whole. There’s something to be said about those businesses that can work not to simply out-do one another but to improve themselves. When one closes its doors, another might revamp inventory to still provide items customers want so they don’t have to shop outside town. Neighboring businesses could ensure they’re not carrying similar products and creating unnecessary resentment.
Mind you, this doesn’t mean there should be no competition in the town and the surrounding area. But competition should be a means to get businesses looking at what they can do or provide differently to keep their doors open and windows uncovered.
There’s comments everywhere about how “small town America” is dying, and though new businesses are opening their doors and established ones are changing things up a bit we need to make sure we’re looking at every opportunity to make our business community better. Whether it’s being more welcoming to those who want to set up shop or partnering with others to improve what’s already here, together is the way we’re going to keep moving forward.
