Plea in drug related charges

Monday afternoon in Hot Springs District Court, Christopher Martin pleaded not guilty to felony charges of conspiracy to deliver methamphetamine and delivery of methamphetamine.

The charges are from a Feb. 17 incident as the result of a controlled buy, during which .6 grams of substance that tested presumptive positive for meth was exchanged.

Though no date has been set, trial in Martin’s case is expected to take three days. He is currently out on a $5,000 cash bond or acceptable bail bond, though that bond was modified Monday to allow him to travel to Washakie County, in part to allow him to get to a dentist appointment

Also in district court, a motion for sentence reduction was continued for Cody Wallace.

Wallace was sentenced on Sept. 5, 2018 for theft, a felony charge to which he pleaded guilty. In exchange, additional felony charges of conspiracy to commit theft, wrongful receiving, concealing or disposal of property, and conspiracy to commit wrongful receiving, concealing or disposal of property were dismissed.

The charges came after a May 20, 2018 incident in which Wallace and Tracey Matti-Forsing took a van from a Thermopolis business parking lot. The vehicle was later located 18 miles outside of Cody after the owner’s cell phone — which was still in the van — was pinged. Wallace was sentenced to three to six years, with 108 days credit. His motion for sentence reduction was scheduled for hearing on Monday, but he chose to continue it as an updated progress report was not yet available.
