Berneita Grace Smith

Berneita Grace Smith passed away Sunday, March 25, 2019, in Spanish Fork, Utah.

She was born March 8, 1921, in Lewistown, Mont., the daughter of Almon Aaron and Frances (Pinkley) Trapp. She lived on a farm south of Grass Range, Mont., and attended country grade school and high school in Grass Range, graduating in 1937.Bernita attended Billings Polytechnic and Business College from 1939-1942. She enlisted in Women's Reserve U.S. Navy (WAVES) March 17, 1944, attending Boot Camp at Hunter College, NYC & Yeoman School in Stillwater, Okla. She served at Naval Supply Depot, Oakland, Calif., and was honorably discharged May 1946, with the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. She also worked as a bookkeeper in Billings, Mont., 1946-1960. Berneita was married in Polson, Mont., on July 20, 1960 to Arthur Lee Smith. They lived in Billings until moving to Carbon County, Mont., in 1963. They moved to Basin, Wyo., area in 1972 and then to Thermopolis in 2005

She is survived by daughters, Margaret (Pete) Mills and Maralee (Rick) Hilzendeger; grandchildren, Emily Williams, Bradley (Jacqulyn) Williams, and Reese (Charity) Danis; great-grandchildren, Korben Danis, Jaxton Williams, Freya Danis, and Braelyn Williams; sister-in-law, Mary G. Hoehne; nieces Carol Reiter and Joan (Marshall) Sutton; caregiver and friend, Tonya Lowe; and many valued friends.

A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
