Coach proud of Bobcat season

This past Friday, the Bobcat Football season came to an end in the boys first-round playoff game against defending 2A state champion Mt. View.

The team was trailing 21-0 at the half, and though they battled through the game they couldn't make it on the scoreboard and ended with a 41-0 loss.

"I'm extremely proud of this football team," coach Matthew McPhie said. "We are measured by teams and programs similar to ours. This is the best conference record this team has had in 4 years, ending with a 3-3 conference record and very competitive games throughout the season. The growth and competitiveness displayed by this team throughout the season is commendable."

Jon Harvey led the team offensively on Friday, McPhie said. "Jon played extremely tough, made great decisions with the ball and did all he could do to help the team compete. Logan Cole had another 100-yard game rushing, finishing the afternoon with 14 carries for 100 yards. Harvey also had 50 yards rushing.

"The defense was led in large part by seniors Tyson Tobar and Jon Harvey. Both of them played physical and assignment sound football. Senior Jeffery VanAntwerp also battled to the end on the defensive side of the ball. Mountain View had two running backs with big days rushing, both eclipsing the 135 yard mark.

"It's never easy to end a season. I am very grateful for the commitment and dedication that these players and especially our senior class have given our program. We as a team often talk about leaving things better than when you found them, and our seniors did just that. I am proud of them and look forward to watching them have success in their endeavors off the field going forward."
