Lady Cats head to regionals

Hot Springs County High School’s Lady Bobcat volleyball team pushed the Newcastle Dogies to five games on Friday night before securing the win.

The Lady Cats lost the first two games, 20-25 and 21-25, but rallied back to win the next three, 25-15, 25-18 and 15-13 to take the match.

“I was very proud of the girls for not giving up and letting down,” coach Shannon Hill said. “They have shown a lot of fight this year and they proved again that they have the will and the want to win matches.”

Hill noted the Newcastle team has improved a lot over the season, too, so the Lady Cats will need to step up their game.

“We still have a lot of work to do before Regionals next week,” Hill said, “but the important piece is that the girls have proven to themselves that we can be competitive in this conference.”

Kelly Johnson did great on offense and added nine kills to her stats.

Sesi Jensen played very well defensively, adding 23 digs and two blocks along with eight kills. Ashley McPhie also added seven kills, 14 digs and three ace

Jaden Schierkolk and Elisa Weber had three aces a piece and Weber, along with Dani Jo Pebbles, added 16 digs each against the Dogies.

The Lady Cats will be in Torrington Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26 and 27, for the 3A East Regional Tournament. First games for Regionals will begin at 9 a.m.
