Hot Spot Car Rally draws a crowd

Father's Day weekend saw plenty of people attending the annual Hot Spot Car Rally in Hot Springs State Park. There were a total 79 entrants for this year's show, though that is down by about a third and the drop is likely due to the rainy weather.

Category winners were: Off Road - John Dorman with a 1984 Jeep CJ-7; Motorcycle - Lloyd and Joan LaFave and his 2007 Boss Hoss Trike; Rat Rod - Heath and Cyndi Brainard with a 1946 GMC Pickup; Street Rod - Sean and Lacy Smith with a 1929 Ford Model A; Truck (through 1979) - Denton Bass with a 1954 Chevy Pickup; Special Interest - David Burroughs with a 1964 Ford Falcon Club Wagon; Classic Muscle (1957 – 1973) Chris Ramirez with a 1964 Chevy Chevelle; Muscle Car (1974 – present) - Edd Pickett with a 1968 Plymouth Road Runner; Vintage Car (through 1949) - Anthony Weihel with a 1947 Dodge WD 20-21; Classic Car (1950 – 1979) - Leonard Cole with a 1957 Ford Skyliner; Modern Vehicle (car/truck, 1980–present) - Jim Johnston with a 2013 Ford Mustang Foreign - Ivan Heimsoth with a 2012 Maserati QP; and People's Choice - Leonard Cole with a 1957 Ford Skyliner.

Also during the event, 300 pedal car tickets were sold; a local recipient with medical needs has been selected to receive these funds. Pedal car winners were: Cody and Lindsey Hensley; Abby Lankford; Dawn Higinbotham; and Mary Lou McGee.

The Car Show Committee put together some jars for people to guess how many candies were in each jar. Also, Bob Dog Garage donated a pull wagon in which raffle tickets were sold. Proceeds from these activities will go to the Thermopolis Volunteer Fire Department's fireworks fund.

Three jackets were also given away this year. Kenny Page, Heath Brainard, and Scott Steiner will receive jackets that will be embroidered.

The Car Show Committee expressed appreciation to the Thermopolis Volunteer Fire Department for their help with traffic control, parking car show vehicles, and displaying of the United States Flag during the car show, as they are part of what makes the car show run so smoothly.
