Japanese drumming group performs

Thermopolis is fortunate once again to have a world-renown musical group coming to entertain and instruct our music students.

On Ensemble is one of the most respected ensembles in the taiko (Japanese drumming) world, and they will be here, Monday, Jan. 15, for a public performance in the auditorium at 7 p.m. Admission is free for students, others are asked to pay what they can.

Influenced not only by the Japanese culture, their rhythms include jazz and rock influences, taking the ancient instruments they play into new realms.

Each year they visit dozens of schools in an educational outreach, providing interactive demonstrations of the powerful taiko drums as well as cultural and musical information and live music.

On Ensemble will also be at the high school on Tuesday, Jan. 16, doing a workshop with the music students.
