Drama club brings home a first from state

The Hot Springs County High School Drama Club had an amazing weekend at State Drama in Casper last week.

"They worked so hard and I received so many comments about how talented, respectful, compassionate, and responsible my students were," said Drama coach Mary McGillivray.

The one act play "Flowers for Algernon" took first place in the Proscenium category over all schools in the category. With that honor, the Bobcats were featured on KTWO-TV, with interviews with McGillivray and Tyler Kay over the weekend.

All of its cast members, Tyler Kay, Aaron Hanson, Ryan Miller, Breeze Petty, and Aime Robinson, received All-State medals for their performances in the show. The team also placed 5th in Sweepstakes for 3A.

There were a total of 12 All-State Medals, which are students who earned a Superior Rating.

These students earned that medal; Katie Burrows in Musical Solo, Stormy Cox in both Realistic and Fantasy Makeup year 4, Aaron Hanson in Proscenium, Hannah Hu in Fantasy Makeup year 2 and Publicity year 1, Tyler Kay in Proscenium, Ben Manning in Stage Management, Ryan Miller in Proscenium, Chauncey Morris in Costume Design year 2, Breeze Petty in Proscenium, and Aime Robinson in Proscenium.

There were a total of 14 Honorable Mention certificates, which are students who earned an Excellent Rating.

These students earned that certificate; Ashley Brawley in Musical Solo, Varsity Monologue, and Varsity Duet, Katie Burrows in Novice Duet, Tyler Kay in Varsity Monologue, Karissa McGarvie-Balstad in Costume Design year 1, Krynn McGinty in Publicity year 2 and Novice Duet, Chauncey Morris in Varsity Duet, Deanna Owings in Novice Duet, Breeze Petty in Varsity Monologue, Lane Randall in Novice Duet, Aime Robinson in Novice Duet, and Ryan Slagle in Novice Duet.

"I am so very proud of these students," McGillivray said. "Please congratulate all of them on an amazing State Drama. The fact that I received positive comments about every single student, individually and at many points during the weekend, makes them all winners. I am beyond proud to be their coach."
