Cross country gearing up for state championships

October 19, 2017

Dayna Sandberg works to keep up her pace during the Cross Country 3A East Regional Meet held Friday at the Thermopolis Golf Course.

The cross country runners had some difficulty last Friday at the 3A East Regional Meet at the golf course. Coach Stephanie Metz said the Bobcats had some bad times, but so did the other teams.

The team had some other issues as well, with one runner losing a shoe and another forgetting spikes. The team also has a new, inexperienced runner.

Though not winning the regional meet was a bit of a let down, Metz noted we still had three girls place in the top 10 and the runners' mindsets are looking up with the focus on the upcoming State Championships at Sheridan. The team will leave for the championships on Friday, to allow them time to walk the course that evening. The meet begins Saturday at 9 a.m.

Results from the regional meet include:

McKenna Bomengen second 22:01

Hudson Roling fourth 18:24

Tahja Hunt sixth 22:35

Olivia Weyer ninth 23:24

Dayna Sandberg 48th 28:00

Trinity Bowen 57th 32:16
