Photography featured during October ArtStroll

The Second-Friday ArtStroll in downtown Thermopolis, October 13 and 14, will feature two of our newer photography artists – Douglas Nelson and Levi Shinkle.  Stroll hours on Friday evening are from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.  The ArtStroll continues Saturday during regular business hours.

Douglas Nelson, who began promoting his art earlier this year, will be sharing his summer landscape and wildlife photos and  Levi Shinkle makes his ArtStroll debut this month, and plans to display images of places, people, and things at host business Nature’s Corner.

While Shinkle says, “I didn’t snap my first photo until after I graduated high school and my first camera was a small Nikon point and shoot that I traded a couple of DVDs for,” he quickly caught the shutter bug and has several projects he has mapped out to explore with his camera.  Both Nelson’s and Shinkle’s works will remind strollers about the beauty and surprises of the world around us.

Jennie Blakesley will be displaying her jewelry while Delanie Price is bringing multi-media pieces.  Harold Hutson and friends will be performing too, this month.  Flying Eagle Gallery features a Make it and Take It activity - painted WarHammer models.

Beau Robbins will teach strollers how to paint a “Stormcast Eternal” model. Robbins, who has been painting these models for years, will cover lots of helpful topics, including base coat, dry brush, and shading.  Models will be assembled and primed, ready to roll, at no cost.

Also participating in this month’s Stroll is S Squared Designs, where owner Stephanie Conrad and friends will showcase and demonstrate handmade and repurposed items.  Elsewhere on the Stroll path find textile artists Donald Vincent, Andrea Linn, Joyce Fletcher, and Jane Oldridge, along with Susan Langford doing healing oils demonstrations.

Hot Springs County Museum welcomes John Sollo, for our own Antique Stroll Show.  Meet John at the opening reception on Friday night from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and come by for the Antique Stroll Show on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to watch him evaluate local finds.

Stay on at the Museum for “History seen through the eyes of Middle School Students in Hot Springs County”, presented by Hot Springs County Historical Society, starting at 2 p.m.  This is an opportunity to see the TMS Living Wax Museum, a class project developed by Language Arts teacher Kristin Ryan.  Because of this project, Ms. Ryan was recognized for her innovative teaching methods with an award from a private foundation.

The Friends of the Library Book and Bake Sale, at the Armory, starts on Friday evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and come back to the Armory to continue shopping for books and baked items from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.  This fundraiser kicks off the Friends of the Library’s 2018 membership drive.

Strollers are encouraged to pick up a map at any stroll business to find the location of artists and musicians. Return the map to the host business, Nature’s Corner, at the end of Friday evening’s stroll to be entered to win a piece of artwork donated by the artists.

The Second-Friday ArtStroll and Still Strolling Saturday are organized by Hot Springs Greater Learning Foundation and Smoking Waters Art Guild, with additional help from Main Street Thermopolis, Hot Springs Travel & Tourism, and local businesses.
