Volunteer for the People for People Backpack program

With school back in session, the People for People Backpack program is ready to kick off another year of helping fight hunger for the school children in Hot Springs County.

The program is aimed toward helping children who may not have enough to eat over the weekend by providing bags of food the children can easily prepare for themselves or their siblings on Fridays as they leave school.

Once each month, Food Bank of the Rockies makes a stop in Thermopolis at the Episcopal Church to drop off about three tons of food, enough to fill the 600-700 bags given to children each month.

How can you help?

Become a volunteer to help unload the truck on delivery day or offer to help pack the bags for students. They also look for volunteers to deliver the bags to the schools each Friday.

Of course, donations are welcome, also.

The backpack program is part of the People for People program, which delivers meals every Sunday for people in town.

You can help with them through volunteering to be on a team, which cooks the meals or delivers meals.

The two programs have fundraisers during the Holiday Season, the Holiday Tour of Homes and the Tree Lot Sale.
