Preregister now for junior rodeo set to hit town later this month

The summer circuit of the Wyoming Junior Rodeo Association (WJRA) will be hitting Thermopolis on Saturday and Sunday, July 22 and 23.

Held at the Hot Springs County Fairgrounds, competition will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning and 9 a.m. on Sunday. There will also be a roping held on Saturday night.

In order to qualify for the summer finals rodeo, cowboys and cowgirls need to compete in five summer rodeos and be members of the WJRA.

The WJRA is a non-profit youth rodeo organization whose goal is to get kids ready to participate in rodeo as they get older. They are here to develop a spirit of fair competition and an appreciation of sportsmanship.

Age divisions include those six and under (PeeWee), seven to 10-years old (juniors) and 11 to 15-year olds (seniors).

You’ll find all kinds of events with the WJRA like barrel racing, pole bending and goat tail tying for the PeeWees, barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, breakaway roping and team roping for the junior and senior girls as well as goat/calf tying, breakaway roping, team roping and steer/bull riding for the junior and senior boys.

Pre-registration is required and parents may call between 5 – 9 p.m. the Monday prior to the rodeo at 307-258-4820.
