Hannah Andreen attends dinner at the White House

Fifth grader Hannah Andreen flew to Washington D.C. to attend the 2016 Kids' "State Dinner " at the White House, after being one of 56 students across the nation chosen after participating in the Healthy Lunchtime Challenge.

The Healthy Lunchtime Challenge & Kids' "State Dinner" is a competition for students aged 8-12 to create an original, healthy, affordable recipe in support of First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! initiative.

Hannah made a chicken and veggie salad for Cassie Hetzel's fifth grade class, and did not anticipate winning a place at the table in the White House for the Kids' "State Dinner."

Hannah said she was able to meet and take a picture with the First Lady, however the dinner was not as enjoyable as she had hoped.

"When we got there, we went in and went through five security places," she said. "Then we toured the White House and had dinner. It was very gross."

Hannah's recipe for her Chicken and Veggie Salad appears in the 2016 Healthy Lunchtime Challenge Kid's "State Dinner" Cookbook: Top Recipes from Future Chefs of America.

In an excerpt from the cookbook, Hannah explains why she chose to make the Chicken and Veggie Salad.

"The recipe I am making is very special to my family," says Hannah. "When we were kids we would always go to dinner with my Great Grandma and eat this chicken and veggie salad. She has since passed away, so we make this in remembrance of her. We make this salad for dinner all the time. The reason that I like this salad is because it is a little bit tart. Also, this is healthy because it has sunflower oil and that is healthier than corn oil. It also has a ton of vegetables."
